If You Like Your Town, Can You Keep It?

This week, I’m in the Wall Street Journal writing about the creeping federalization of land use policy. This rather dull yet intimate issue within the full purview of state and local government is gradually seeing more federal intervention.

The piece ties to the broader theme of That Patchwork which is to question the entrenched notion that central power knows best and that if we want to retain a democracy committed to pluralism, we need to confront the reflexive decision-making power that is being placed into fewer hands in distant places.
